Our Partner: Hope for Her Foundation

In selecting our scholarship recipients and suitable training institutions, we work closely with our partner organisation – the Hope for Her Foundation in Accra.

This close collaboration on the ground is a key factor in the success of our programme. It enables us to understand the young women’s individual circumstances and to support them in finding the educational path that best fits their needs and ambitions.

M.Sc. Yussuf Yakubu (General Practitioner)

The collaboration with our partner organisation, Hope for Her Foundation, is led by physician Yussuf Yakubu. He completed his medical studies at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in Kumasi and is the founder and voluntary director of the organisation.

Professionally, Yussuf works in a senior position at the Ghanaian Ministry of Health, serves as a member of the national drug regulation authority, and heads the Department of Traditional Medicine.
Originally from northeastern Ghana himself, Yussuf has been committed to supporting Kayaye for many years. In several neighbourhoods of Accra, where many of these young women live, he is a trusted and well-respected figure.
In 2023, he also completed a junior leadership programme for professionals in development cooperation at the Friedrich Ebert Foundation.

For our organisation, Yussuf Yakubu is a key point of contact and an invaluable bridge-builder: he understands not only the living conditions and needs of Kayaye, but is also deeply familiar with Ghana’s political framework and with the admission requirements and structures of medical training programmes.
His dedication on the ground is a crucial factor in the success of our work.

Hope for Her Foundation

The Hope for Her Foundation supports women working as Kayaye in Accra directly on the ground.

Their work includes counselling, information campaigns, and targeted guidance to help young women explore professional opportunities.
Another current project of the organisation focuses on promoting the direct marketing of agricultural products from northern Ghana. The aim is to improve the income of women and families in the northern regions in a sustainable way and, in turn, reduce the migration pressure toward the major cities.
